Leaving Eden, Brandon Heath - What the Meaning of the Song is to Me
63Leaving Eden, Brandon Heath
Why I Love This Song
When I heard this song it made me think about growing up in todays world. Eden was my childhood. Though, far from perfect, as a child I was unaware of all the dangers lurking in the world and at 18 I was not so afraid to set out on my own. Over the last decade and on the course of growing up I gradually started to realize just how bad things can be. I started to really see the world. This realization was terrifying. I really began to understand how fragile life is and to see the creulty and experience loss and heart break. Through my twenties I found myself desperate to hold on to my youth, not wanting to face the reality of life.
Last summer I wrote about what it was like to make it to the big 3-0. It's not just growing OLDER, to me, it was realizing how much I've grown UP but more importantly how much more growing up I still have left to do. I am glad that I am a Christian. Jesus is my Savior and my ticket out of this mess.
I thank Brandon Heath and artist alike for their music. It helps me know we are not alone in the world no matter how hard things get sometimes. Yes, we have left Eden, but there is a promise of eternal life through the blood of Jesus. I'll continue to grow up and I'm sure I'll feel farther and farther away from Eden as the next step is to guide my children through this sinful world and stand by their sides as they too, face the reality of life as they leave Eden.

When it comes to leaving Eden, we end up leaving behind our own simple world of right and wrong and start seeing everything shades in gray. There's so much hurt in the world that too many of us are not sure what to do about it. We see these things as we get older, but as we do we can better ourselves by providing the help that people need through volunteering, education, and just talking to each other. Then, as Brandon Heath said, we'll end up "...going back home." We'll be to see the good things in the world again like we did when we were younger and be with God in a perfect heaven when our time comes.
I was really moved by this. Thank you for sharing it.
